Bindings.

This is the way that I do bindings.  I use an old fashion hair clip.  Not the bent clips that most people use.  I find that this is easier to remove as I sew along.  It holds well and can be 'slid' down the binding to maintain the back side to the proper depth.
Here the clips are shown on the the back and front side.  The binding is pulled from the front to the back far enough to cover the sewing line.  Then the clip is added.  The distance between the clips is determined by the stiffness of the binding, batting and if the binding will stay in place.
Stitch in the ditch from the front and slide the clips down to the next clip as you go.
Perfect finished binding on the back.  Rarely do I have to go back and re-sew any of the binding to catch the back side.  There can be some slight difference in the depth of the flap but generally not enough to change.

  1. Oh MY! This is so helpful! I love it! Thank you for sharing. I have been afraid to quilt my top because I was scared of having to hand stitch the binding. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  2. I am so glad this helped. This is the easiest bindings I have ever done. It only takes about 3 hours to do a full/queen size quilt.....from start to fold and done!! I have tried the 'bent' clips and found they 'did not move' at all. These I can slide from pressure foot to next clip.
