Pieced star.....matching points

Matching the points on the diamonds of a pieced star is not an easy task.  I start by marking the back of the first strip.  Then marking the front of the next strip.
Place the ruler with the fabric just to the short side of the 1/4" mark.  (Each ruler will be different and will take some practice to find the exact placement for each)  If the fabric is not exactly straight, move the ruler to the correct depth for each seam.
Pin the top piece just short of the marked line.
Pin the bottom just long of the mark.
Place the pin in the straight up and down position.
Swing the pin in a diagonal line with the edge of the material.  This will actually line the seams up to make a perfect matching point.
Sew on the line.  I sew over the pins.  The pin will usually fall into the feed dogs and slide past the needle.  It is worth the occasional bent pin or broken needle to get an accurate point.
Iron the seams in opposite directions on the strips.  Sometimes this may require re-ironing to get them going in the right directions.  I have found that I can match seams and have less bulk on the seam lines.
Matching points.  Not always....but the majority of the time!!
I take out only those seams that don't match before I iron.  Rip the seam line from 3/4 of the diamond above and below the offending seam.  Re-pin, re-sew.
Line of seams that match.....move on to the next row.
