Almost self explanatory. Measure your individual width from needle to edge of binding. I do not trim the backing and batting until after I attach the binding.
Transfer this to the end of the binding. Measure from the end of the quilt top.
Sew up to the mark. Not over. Stop with the needle in the down position.
Raise the pressure foot leaving the needle down.
Turn the quilt top so the sewn part is parallel and the 'new' edge is align with the foot.
Raise the needle and back away from the quilt edge.
Hold the binding strip up and form a triangle fold on the bottom and a flat fold against the corner edge on top.
Start sewing just off the edge of the fold.
Continue sewing down the side to the next corner.
Trimming is done after the binding is sewn down.
Use any method you prefer to sew the start and stop of the binding together smoothly.
Use any method you prefer to sew the start and stop of the binding together smoothly.
First trim all of one side and then move around each of the other sides.
I usually do this as I finish sewing down the binding. Turning the corner and sewing far enough down to be able to lay that side flat and trim the backing and batting.
Once trimmed it looks like this on the back side
Start sewing the binding on any side. As you get to a corner....pin around the corner leaving the corner open.
Take your thumb and press one side under the other forming a mitered corner.
I use a quilting pin to hold the corner in place while sewing.
Continue to sew to the corner.
Stop exactly at the corner with the needle in the down position.
Raise the pressure foot and turn the quilt to sew down the next side.
The finished corner looks like this on the front.
Looks like this on the back.
Remove the pin. Finish sewing the rest of the binding.
Remember: In quilting there is no right or wrong way to do anything....just your way, my way and somebody else's.....I do it the way that works best and fastest for me.
