just to start the day....

I usually spend some time reading blogs in the mornings.  I start with the quilting ones first (reminder to change/add the inspirations on the sidebar!) and then on to others if I have time.  I try and limit myself to one hour.  Just enough to get inspired to move for the rest of the day.  Then make a few lists of things that need to get done and then get on the move.....Today I was reading here and was lead to worst month of year.  And I have to agree! 100%!! Right on the nose!!!  What is with January.....it stinks!   Dark and really cold this year.  Dark with the blinds down, sheers pulled, drapes pulled to keep out the radiating cold, making rooms dark like caves.  Dark and for days on end very cloudy.   Did I mention DARK!!  Any sunny spots during the day...I opened the drapes, sheers, blinds, and the front door to let in the maximum amount of light.  Yes I know about seasonal affective disorder....SAD.  (Have bad case this time of year)
Explanation: Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that occurs in relation to the seasons, most commonly beginning in winter.
*Afternoon slumps with decreased energy and concentration.
*Carbohydrate cravings.
*Decreased interest in work or other activities.
*Depression that starts in fall or winter.
*Increased appetite with weight gain.(DUH!! carbs and decrease energy!!)
*Increased sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness.
*Lack of energy.
*Slow, sluggish, lethargic movement.(Duh.....it's COLD!)
*Social withdrawal. (Do you think it has anything to do with weight gain, lack of energy, sleepiness and being a slug!!)
As with other types of depression, antidepressant medications and talk therapy can be effective. Light therapy using a special lamp to mimic light from the sun may also be helpful.  (Moving south!!)
Symptoms commonly get better on their own with the change of seasons. (Like coming of Spring and the SUN!)
End of medical education......  Now back to January.  Have to say that it is just not one of my favorite months....Not like April(spring flowers), June(summer flowers, sun, heat), October(turning leaves)....even December(vacation near the ocean!) has its good points.  But January.........nothing.

ps-I hate it when you want pictures in a certian place and when you move them there...they jump to somewhere else!  Causes me to edit... post... edit... post... etc..... OCD?  (For another day!  : )
